Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a typical belly dance show? A typical show is between 25 and 40 minutes, with the dancer using finger cymbals and a veil. Other props, such as swords and a tray of candles, may be incorporated on request. Some shows include audience participation; for example the guest of honor may be invited to belly dance!
Who supplies the music and sound system? The belly dancer provides a CD and can often meet your special music requests. Music can range from classical Arabic to modern pop, Turkish, or Armenian. The venue should provide the sound system but if no DJ or house system is available, the dancer can usually arrange this. Also, live musicians can be arranged upon request.
Do I tip the dancer? Tipping the dancer is a fun part of the culture. Tips may be tucked into the dancer's belt, or thrown above her head as a "money shower" unless the venue or host requests “no tipping.”
Can I hire several dancers? Having several dancers perform solos or as a group can create a spectacular show that your guests won’t forget.
At what kinds of parties do belly dancers perform? Baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, retirement parties, anniversaries, weddings, fund raisers, women’s clubs, and more enjoy the sparkle of a belly dancer. Aurel, like most professional belly dancers, does not perform at bachelor parties.
Is it a child-friendly experience? Absolutely, yes. A belly dance show is a family friendly experience and most children thoroughly enjoy the show.
When should I make the booking? Booking three months in advance is suggested. Saturday nights tend to be booked first so book your dancer earlier if the event is a Saturday. If you are flexible about the show time, a last minute show may be possible.
What if the event is far away from the dancer’s region? Shows requiring the dancer to travel more than 50 miles will need to be booked in advance and will carry an additional fee.
